Mrs. Velma J. "Moochie" Nicholson, 70, passed away Friday, Feb. 28, 2014.
Mrs. Nicholson was a longtime resident of Ellabell and attended First Baptist Church of Ellabell. She was a part of the family construction business for more than 38 years. She loved shopping and had a great sense of humor and took great pride in embellishing the truth, and she loved Bud Nicholson to the end.
She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 38 years, Willard LaFayette "Bud" Nicholson; daughter, Kathy Hughes; her parents, Howard Martin and Mary Gladys Sheets Manning; two brothers, Billy Manning and O.B. Manning; and a sister, Sil Davenport.
She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Robin and Roy Hudson of Brooklet and Lebeth and Tim Stillwell of Ellabell; son-in-law Tommy and Denice Hughes; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Earvie Bard of Ellabell, Hilda and Robert White of Lake Sinclair, and Judy Welborn of West Minister, S.C.; and six grandchildren, Michael Hughes, Mandy Hughes, Chad McDougal, Christian Moody, Jennifer Oliver, Jimmy Oliver, Timmy Stillwell, Katrina Stillwell and Lindsay Stillwell; four great-grandchildren, Chance Oliver, Patients Oliver, Reed Moody and Luke McDougal; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
The funeral is at 11 a.m. Monday, March 3, at Flanders Morrison Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Brad Butler and the Rev. Jim Sullivan officiating. Interment will follow in Ellabell Baptist Cemetery.
Visitation is from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
