Mr. Fowler was born Feb. 1, 1920, in Arnoldsville. He moved with his family to Winter Haven, Fla., in 1932 where he lived for 79 years until health problems forced his moving to Brooklet in 2011. He was retired from the Polk County School Board in Winter Haven and was an U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Leefield Baptist Church. He was the last surviving child of Winslow Norman and Bonnie Mae Fields Fowler.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Edna (Thedric) Sorrow, Vera (Frank) Green, Grace (Horace) Sledge, Louise (Bob) Parks and Maxine (John) Headley; and his brothers, Ernest (Ruby) Fowler, Walt (Mary) Fowler and C.T. (Mary) Fowler.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Sarah Hagan Fowler of Brooklet; children, Janice (Gerald) Jones of Brooklet, Sandra (Charles) Lancaster of Ellabell and Richard (Janice Sue) Fowler of Wildwood, Fla.; grandchildren, Dean (Sandy) Jones and Debbie (Mike) Marotte, both of Brooklet, Alan (Stacey) Fowler of Wildwood, Fla., Angela Ross of Lady Lake, Fla., and Scott (Angie) Lancaster, John (Angel) Lancaster and Michael (Stacy) Lancaster, all of Ellabell; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. His family was his great pride and his face would light up when any of them came to see him, especially the young children.
The funeral is at 11 a.m. Monday, April 7, at Hodges-Moore Funeral Home Chapel in Statesboro with Elder Daniel Strickland and Pastor Dan Bryant officiating. Burial will be in Corinth-Leefield Baptist Cemetery. Pallbearers will be the grandsons.
