UPPER SANDUSKY: Fred J. Ekleberry, age 90, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, passed away on Friday, October 11, 2013 at 4:56am at the Fairhaven Community in Upper Sandusky.

Fred was born on September 16, 1923 in Nevada, Ohio, to Fred K. and Anna (Twa) Ekleberry, both of whom are deceased. He married Mary A. Swihart on April 26, 1947, and she survives

He is survived by two sons, Michael (Jayne) Ekleberry of Boynton Beach, Florida, and Scott Ekleberry of Upper Sandusky; two grandchildren, Sean Ekleberry of Chula Vista, California and Ian Ekleberry of Upper Sandusky; two step-grandchildren Jason (Stephanie) Cowart of Wooster, Ohio, and Jamie (Jennifer) Cowart of Minerva, Ohio; along with a great-granddaughter, Kaylee Ekleberry and eight step-greatgrandchildren. Fred is also survived by a brother, Gerald "Jerry" (Virginia) Ekleberry of Bucyrus; and was preceded in death three brothers, Virgil, Robert and Kenneth Ekleberry; and three sisters, Luella Green, Rosamond Porter and Beulah Pilliod.

Fred worked maintenance and did tool and die for Westinghouse Electric in Upper Sandusky for 30 years. After his retirement, he worked part time at Lincoln Hill's Golf Course, also located in Upper Sandusky. Fred was a veteran of World War II in the US Navy on the USS LST Landing Craft having served in the Mediterranean, North Africa, Sicily and Anzio.

He was a long time member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Upper Sandusky where he was a member of the Spares and Pairs Sunday School Class. He was also a Warpole Lodge #176 F&AM, McCutchen Chapter #96 RAM, Upper Sandusky Council #98 R&SM, Scottish Rite-Valley of Toledo, Marion Commandry #36 and the Aladdin Shrine Temple of Columbus. Fred was also a life member of the BPOE #83, Amercian Legin Post #225, Wyandot Tracer OGS and the Wyandot County Historical Society, all of Upper Sandusky. For hobbies, Fred enjoyed woodworking, wood refinishing, and working outside around the yard or tending the apple trees. He also like to golf and bird watch.

Funeral services for Fred J. Ekleberry will be held at 11:00am Tuesday, October15, at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky with the Rev. Jim Stauffer officiating. Burial will follow at the Old Mission Cemetery in Upper Sandusky where military graveside rites will be conducted. Visitations will be held on Monday, October 14, from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky.
