Gerald R. "Chopper" DeJean, Sr.

BUCYRUS: Gerald R. "Chopper" DeJean, Sr., age 73, of Bucyrus, Ohio passed away on Sunday, January 6, 2013 at 4:00AM at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.

He was born on October 19, 1939 in Bucyrus, Ohio to Charles and Mary Louise (Dunn) DeJean, both of whom are deceased. He married Patricia Ann Nordyke and she is deceased.

Surviving are two sons, Gerald Rick DeJean Jr. of Dallas, Texas, Jon (Jane Swisher) DeJean of Bucyrus and a daughter, Sherri (Sonny Hart, fiancé) Bloomfield of Shelby, Ohio; and two grandchildren, Cortney DeJean and Ryan Lee Alt; and a great grandchild, Aidan Scott Carpenter.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Warren and Paul; and a sister, Margaret Shulaw.

Gerald worked for GE in Bucyrus for 35 years in the machine shop. He attended Eden School and was a veteran having served in the US Army.

He was a member of the NRA, and for hobbies he enjoyed in his younger years skydiving, riding his motorcycle and target shooting and reloading. Being very talented with his hands, Gerald helped many with repairs of machinery and also had a small foundry at his home where he poured and crafted small cannons.

Gerald was known by the many who knew him for his practical jokes and the love for his dog Chipper.

Funeral services for Gerald R. "Chopper" DeJean Sr. will be held at 2:00PM Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Nevada with the Rev. Bob Jividen officiating. Burial will follow in Nevada Cemetery. Visitations will be held on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Nevada.
