Stanley "Gonzo" Dyer
BUCYRUS: Stanley A. Dyer, 58, died peacefully in the presence of his family Thursday afternoon, August 8, 2013 after fighting a fierce battle with cancer.
He was born in Bucyrus September 2, 1954 to the late Otha Dyer and Pauline (Butler) Dyer who survives in Bucyrus. He attended Bucyrus Schools and worked locally at a number of places including Swan Rubber and Checkmate. He traveled all over the country and into Canada as a salesman as well.
Stanley will be remembered as an easygoing, kind-hearted man who took life as it came. When he was a kid, he earned the nickname "Bugsy" for his orneriness and was later known to his friends as "Gonzo." Stan enjoyed fishing (a hobby he took up as a kid with his father), camping and relaxing and telling stories with friends.
Stan is survived by his mother; three children, Kelly (Donald) Kimmerly, Kristina Grooms and Eric Michael Dyer, all of West Union; seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren; brother, Terry (Kay) Dyer; sisters, Kathy (Michael) Neeld, Kaye (Steven) Hildreth, Kenetta Dyer and Pamela Dyer; several nieces and nephews and close friends in Portsmouth, Connie, Donnie and Alisha Cooper and Alisha's children, Carly and Gage.
In addition to his dad, Stan was preceded in death by his brother, James; nephews, Will and Jake Dyer and great niece, Jocelyn.
Funeral services for Stanley will be held at Wise Funeral Service on Monday, August 12 at 1:00 p.m. with Lyle Arnett officiating. Friends may call two hours prior to the service from 11-1 and burial will follow in Crawford County Memory Gardens.
