Donald R. Gardner

BUCYRUS: Donald R. Gardner, 81, of Bucyrus passed away on Thursday at home, his death was unexpected.

Don was born March 1, 1931 in Ashley, OH to the late Nelson and Lena (Hobson) Gardner. He was married Oct. 21, 1950 to Jacqueline Elaine (Sipes) Gardner who survives. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by daughter and son in law, Carole Carmel and her husband, Richard; five brothers, and three sisters.

Don is also survived by son, Donald (Angie) Gardner of York, SC; grandchildren, Crista (Justin) Tinch, Galion, Dylan (Mariangela) Gardner, Arlington, VA, Levi Gardner, York, SC; great grandchildren, Riley and Alexa Tinch; brother, Phillip (Joan) Gardner of Iberia; sister, Marjorie Martin of Galion; sister in laws, June Gardner and Charlotte Gardner both of Galion; and special niece and nephews. Janet Tupps of Galion, Dick Reeder of Bucyrus and Bob Gardner of Galion.

Don retired in 1984 from Swan after 35 years. He was a graduate of Galion H.S. Class of 1949 and a member of Community Christian Church in Galion. Don was a Veteran of both the U.S. Navy and Army and was a Life Member of American Legion Post 181 where he served on the military honor guard, and a life member of the Amvets Post #27 and VFW Post 4329 of Galion. Don enjoyed playing golf and working in his yard, he was a longtime member of Valley View.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 am in the Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home with Dr. Daniel A. Turner officiating, burial will follow in Iberia Cemetery with military honors provided by the Am. Legion Post 181. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday evening from 7-8 pm.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Comm. Christian Church or the American Legion and expressions of sympathy may be left at munzpirnstill.com
