  Freeman Jacob Kalb
BUCYRUS: Freeman Jacob Kalb, 93, of rural Bucyrus passed away on Monday at 3:55 pm in Altercare of Bucyrus.
Freeman was born August 22, 1918 in Lykens Twp., Crawford Co. to the late Jacob and Martha (Ross) Kalb. His mother died in 1919 when he was an infant and he was raised by his aunt Minnie Kalb. Freeman was married April 1, 1945 to Eugenia "Genie" Luicile (Inloes) Kalb and she passed away September 25, 2008. In addition, Freeman was preceded in death by brothers Clarence and Alvin; as well as one sister Ruth Sours.
Freeman's life was about his family, the farm, and the community. He had a large family with four sons, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, good friends, and neighbors.
He is survived by sons John (Sue), of Bucyrus, Don (Christine), Morrow, OH, Robert "Butch" (Robin) of Worthington, Tom (Connie), of Bucyrus; grandchildren Mollie (Jake) Zinser, Angie (Brett) DeGray, Julie Kalb, Donnie (Kelly) Kalb, Mandy (Tim) Huecker, Danny (Amy) Kalb, David Kalb, Jenny (Brad) Owens, Joe Kalb, Zach Kalb, Tyler Kalb; great grandchildren Tara and Macey Zinser, Jackson, Maggie, and Lila Huecker, Melia and Haven Kalb, Sophia Kalb, Paine and John DeGray; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Freeman loved Lykens Twp, Crawford County, and the farm, where he never wanted to leave. He lived his entire life here except for the four years he was gone while serving in the South Pacific in the Army 37th Division during WWII. He was a farmer, carpenter, school bus driver, insurance agent and adjuster, a worker at Timken and Swan Rubber, a township trustee, and an auctioneers clerk, among other things. Freeman never was without a pet dog and loved animals of all kinds. Over the years he had pet kitties, raccoons, rabbits, and squirrels. Freeman loved going to auctions, refurbishing furniture and collecting all sorts of things.
He was a member of the Nazareth Lutheran Church, the American Legion Post 181, the Lykens Conservation League, and was formerly a member of the Lykens Vol. Fire Dept and for 16 years was a Lykens Twp. Trustee. He enjoyed the Lykens Investment club and for many years going to the Wynford basketball games.
Life was not easy for Freeman but he never complained. He lived through the depression, never had much money, but always had enough and that was good enough for him. Freeman had a good life as he was a man of honor, a faithful husband, and a good father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 am in the Nazareth Lutheran Church with Gene Luidhardt, S.A.M. officiating, burial will be in Nazareth Lutheran Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm.
