Genevieve "Si" Langenderfer
FINDLAY: Genevieve "Si" Langenderfer, age 87, was born to Catherine and Frank Simon, as Rose Genevieve Simon, at the Toledo Hospital on August 17, 1924. God called her Home on Monday, July 16, 2012, while she was surrounded by her family.
She is a graduate of Notre Dame Academy and the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. She remained in touch with many of her fellow grads until just recently. In 1948, she met her husband, Harvey Paul Langenderfer and they married on July 24, 1948 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Assumption, OH. And he remains a loving and devoted husband. He has been at her side every day of her illness.
She had four siblings, a sister, Rita (Kenny) Hiatt; brothers, John C. (Hannah Pat) Simon, William (Phyllis) Simon and Richard Simon, all deceased.
God blessed her with three sons, Scott (Paula) of Bucyrus, OH, David (Teresa) of Van Buren, OH, Randy (Melanie) of Solon, OH: and a daughter, Sally Burke (Rick) of Canonsburg, PA; along with thirteen grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. Motherhood was her greatest joy. She loved her own children and everyone who came along with them. "Mom" was a name she heard from so many who benefited from her loving and nurturing. She wasn't happy unless she had a house full of family/friends.
After her children were raised, Genevieve went back to work for the Hancock County Cancer Society as a visiting nurse. After ten years, she retired in 1982 and enjoyed spending time playing Bridge and Maj-Jong with friends. She loved to be active and anywhere with family and friends. She was a devoted member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Parish for forty-five years, a Eucharistic Minister and a member of the Leo Councilettes.
Visitation hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at the Kirkpatrick-Behnke Funeral Home where the rosary will be prayed at 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 19, 2012 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 750 Bright Road, with Father Chris Bazar celebrant. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Michael the Archangel School Educational Foundation Fund, 750 Bright Road; Findlay, OH 45840.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff of the Sterling House. Their love and tender care made her final days peaceful.
