GALION: Ivan William Sipes, 81, of rural Galion in Morrow County went to be with his Lord and Savior on September 22, 2012 at his home. He was born November 22, 1930 to the late Boyd T. and Hazel G. (Hall) Sipes in North Bloomfield Twp., Morrow County where he lived his whole life.
He graduated from Iberia High School in 1949 and the same year married his high school sweetheart, Marilyn M. Rinehart, on June 12 at Ebenezer Methodist Church in Morrow County. They exemplified a Godly marriage for over 63 years. Together they lovingly raised their family of two daughters, two sons, seven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. They enjoyed traveling, especially to visit their family in distant places.
A man of deep faith, Ivan was a faithful member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church, as well as the Friendship Parish of Methodist Churches, the Friendship Parish Choir, Ebenezer Brotherhood, Morrow County Men for Missions, Northmor School Board, and Seniors on Center of Morrow County. Ivan and Marilyn were recognized as Outstanding Senior Citizens of Morrow County in 2006. They enjoyed playing dominoes each week with a group of friends for many years.
He seemed to know everyone in Morrow County as well as the surrounding counties having been a co-owner or salesman for John Deere farm equipment for over 30 years in three locations. He also worked for several years at Liberty Mill in Galion.
In addition to his faithful, loving wife, he is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl (Mark) Fischer of Montgomery, Texas and their children, Amy and Matthew Fischer of Houston, Texas; Mildred (Jerry) Petersen of Roatán, Honduras and their son, Jesse (Kristin) Petersen of Tampa, Fla.; one son and daughter-in-law, John R. (Linda) Sipes of Galion and their children, Devon (Ruben) Ruiz of Galion, Nathan (Candace) McRill of Findlay, and Amanda (Shandale) Collins of Arlington; six great-grandchildren survive him as well as his brother, Donald Sipes of Galion; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Lois Rinehart, Duane Rinehart, Alvin (Margaret) Rinehart, Danny (Linda) Rinehart; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Ivan was preceded by one son, Leslie G. Sipes who died in 2003; and one granddaughter, Rachel L. Petersen, who died in 1981; his brother and sisters-in-law, Clarence (Ruth) Sipes, and Clarence's first wife Juanita; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Ethel (Vincent) Palevich, Mabel (James) Miller and Mabel's first husband, William Baldwin; Evelyn (James) Wiseman; a sister-in-law, Barbara Sipes; and a brother-in-law Gerald Rinehart.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, September 27, 2012 at Richardson-Davis Funeral Home in Galion. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 28 at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, 8652 State Route 19, Galion with Pastor Gary Lamb-Hart officiating and Jerry Petersen offering the eulogy via video. Burial will follow at Ebenezer United Methodist Cemetery.
