Robert F. Hancock

SOUTH TX: Robert F. Hancock was born to Abraham J. Hancock and Gertrude Elizabeth (Rettig) Hancock.

He graduated from Bucyrus High School with the class of 1939. Upon entering the Army Air Corps he joined the cadet program at the University of Montana in Missoula. He became a ball turret gunner of B-17's and was honorably discharged in 1946.

He married Ruth Eleanor (Spiegel) Hancock December 14, 1946 and together they raised three children, Dave (Sandy) Hancock of Holmes Twp, Linda (Eric) Bogan of Bucyrus, and Jim (Dagmar) Hancock of Whetstone Twp.

In the 1950's he was Fire Chief for the local Civil Defense Unit in Bucyrus. He and Chet Winkelfoos operated Jess Byrd Ambulance Service in the early 1960's here. Flying his planes was his favorite adventure and he and Dennis Beebe built a B-D5 experimental aircraft. His working career began at Swan Rubber Co. in the early 50's and he retired from the Timken CO. after 30 years as a Stationary Engineer.

Mom passed away March 28, 1985.

Dad spent his retirement years in South TX. where he met and married Florence Davidson May 23, 1986 Flo passed away April 14, 2012.

Grandchildren are Veronica and Robert Mills, Tallahassee, FL, Dion and Leena Hancock, Clearwater, FL, Kyle and Sheri James, Dunn NC., Amy and Cory Kitchin, Bucyrus, Jack and Amanda Albert, Bucyrus, and Erin and Robert Hill, Corpus Christi, TX; great-grandchildren. Austin, Dominic, Maleri, Sage and Brett Mills, David and Tristan Hancock, Brinsley Kitchin, Kylee James, Jane Hill and J.D. and Ella Albert.

Dad was preceded in passing by his sister Mary K. Haala; brother Edwin C. Hancock.

Dad was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and a 50 year member of Bucyurs Post American Legion.

A memorial service was held in South TX. and Dad was laid to rest under the warm Texas sun.
