BUCYRUS: Walter "Shortie" Blankenship Jr. passed away peacefully October 3, 2012 at Med Central Hospital in Mansfield after a courageous battle with cancer.
Shortie was born on September 16, 1943 to Walter Blankenship and Annabell Hull Blankenship. Shorty graduated Bucyrus high school in 1961.On June 29, 1963 he married his high school sweetheart, Carol Albright. They shared 49 wonderful years together.
On January 21, 1964 they became the parents of their only child, Sherri Lynn Blankenship Motter. She was the love of his life and the Godsend that helped him all through his illness. He also has one grandson, Justin Motter whom he loved so dearly.
Shortie worked at Komatsu Dresser for 37 years then worked for Baja Boats retiring in 2003.
Shortie will be most remembered for his crazy shenanigans. Shortie could make anyone laugh by his actions.
Shortie is survived by his loving wife Carol; his daughter Sherri; his beloved grandson Justin Motter and fiancé Kim Adams; and his son-in-law Gene Motter; he is also survived by his father, Walter Blankenship; his sister Nancy Banks; and his brother Dave Blankenship; he is also survived by his sister-in-law, Ruth Kalb; and his brother-in-law, Jim Albright; nephews John (Sherry) Kintz, Josh Kintz; niece Miranda Kintz; and his cat, Smokie. He is preceded in death by his mother, Annie
The family will receive friends on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm in the funeral home. Funeral Services will be held at the Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home on Saturday at 11 am with Rev. Herman Hartmann officiating, burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
