Junior B. "J.B." Wert

BUCYRUS: Junior B. "J.B." Wert, 92, of Monnett, was welcomed home by the Lord Jesus on December 9, 2012 at Carlisle House with family by his side.

J.B. was born August 12, 1920 in Monnett to the late Rahland B. and Myrtle (Rice) Wert. He grew up attending his first eight years of school in Monnett and graduated in 1938 from Mt. Zion High School. Following high school, J.B. served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII from 1942-45 as a flight engineer and gunner on 50 bombing missions.

On December 31, 1944 he married Martha O. Quaintance who survives. After his time in the service, J.B. returned home to work as a self-employed truck driver and then drove 23 years for Marion Brick. He and Martha also served as administrators of the Belle Hoffman Michael Home from 1980-89.

J.B. came to Christ in 1950 and he enjoyed letting others know the joys that Christ provided in his life. He was a charter member of the Lighthouse Baptist Church. He was a diligent Bible student and dedicated Sunday School teacher for 55 years.

J.B. will be remembered as a patriotic man who loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed singing in duets, trios and quartets over the years and liked tinkering with things, even building an elevator in his garage. He always found time to watch baseball or basketball and was proud to keep the lawns at home and church looking nice.

In addition to his wife of nearly 68 years, J.B. is survived by six children, James (Fern) Wert and Harold (Betty) Wert, both of Monnett, Randy (Elaine) Wert of Danville, Pastor William (Pamela) Wert of Monnett, Jane Green of Bucyrus and Sharon (Bill) Keener of Greenfield, Ind.; 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Selah, Donald and Earl Wert and sister, Miriam Parcher.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 12 in Monnett Chapel Cemetery (Monnett Chapel Road and Ohio 98 South) at Lighthouse Baptist Church with Pastor Bill Wert officiating and full military rites provided by the U.S. Army and American Legion Post 181 Honor Guards. Friends are asked to meet at the cemetery and calling hours and a memorial service will be announced at a later time.

His family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be given to the Missionary Outreach of Lighthouse Baptist Church through Wise Funeral Service. Online expressions of sympathy may be left at
