GALION: Alta F. Nelson, 89, of Galion, died Sunday, January 27, 2013 at Magnolia Terrace in Galion following declining health where she has been a resident for seven years. Alta practiced a deep faith for God and his teachings.
Born May 14, 1923 in Galion, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd and Fannie (Amick) Deisch. She was preceded in death on Apr. 14, 2001 by her husband, Lester Nelson whom she married on April 14, 1946.
Alta was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church in Galion and graduated from Galion High School in 1941. Following graduation she worked at the former Stratbury Manufacturing and was a homemaker after marriage. She was an avid sports fan and attended her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren's sporting events. Alta loved her family and provided care to her husband and her own family members. She was known for her pies and outstanding home cooking. Besides caring for her family she was a member of the Galion Golden Age Club and the Jing-A-Lings along with being a member of the Galion Women of the Moose Chapter 177.
She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Ron and Linda Nelson of Galion and David Nelson of Galion; one daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Randall Metzger of Bucyrus; five grandchildren,
Todd (Erika) Nelson, Kipp (Brittany) Nelson and Kurt Nelson and Rana (Wes) Davis and Chad (Andrea) Myers; seven great-grandchildren, Chase and Audrey Neubacher, Weston and Wyatt Davis, Dominic Myers and Lahna Marie and Ronnie Noelle Nelson; two step-great grandchildren, Addison and Parker Dunnington; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Dorothy Dixon of Galion and Verna Mae and Emmett Matthews of Galion.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Kenneth, James and Paul Deisch; and five sisters, Lenore Linder, Elizabeth Plew, Marietta Hensley, Mildred Jerger and Mary Smith-Drake; an infant brother; and a great-grandson, Zachery Neubacher.
Alta's family would like to thank the staff of Magnolia Terrace and HomeCare Matters Hospice for the excellent care she received.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, February 2, 2013 at Richardson-Davis Funeral Home where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 2, with Pastor Richard Genzman officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
