Barbara (Adair) GOODMAN

GOODMAN - Barbara (nee Adair) Passed away on January 20, 2014 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, at the age of 99. She was born September 14, 1914 in Mineola, Long Island, NY. Daughter of Jamie and Barbara Adair. She graduated from Williamsville High School (NY) in 1932. Barbara was among the first 400 woman to join the Women's Army Air Corp (WAACs) in 1943, where she served as a Captain. After working and living in Amherst, NY, she and her husband moved to Greenville, South Carolina and following his death, Barbara moved to Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Her family marveled at, and appreciated, her tremendous ability to recall details of the last 99 years. Her grandsons referred to her as the "prototype of the internet." From her candid recollections, the family knows much of its history, beginning with immigration from Scotland to their proud achievements in the United States. She is preceded in death by her husband William Goodman and son Andrew Alston; brothers Jamie and Robin Adair, and sister Eleanor Adair. She is survived by two grandsons, Kevin (Annamaria) Alston of Cooper City, FL, and Stephen (Janice) Alston of Davie, FL, great-grandchildren Andrew, Emma, Nicholas, Kristian, Kaylyn and Dylan Alston, and nieces Barbara Ann (late Frank) Adair Norcross, Jared Adair, Susan (late Terrance) Adair Villnow, Sally (Roger) Adair Horak, Christine (late Walter) Adair Hicks, Elizabeth (Kevin) Adair Whitaker, and Robin Jo (Kenneth) Adair Green. The family will hold a private Celebration of Her Life at a date to be determined.
