Blaine Francis "Sid" SIDLER

SIDLER - Blaine Francis "Sid" Age 66, Duncansville, PA, died peacefully at home Saturday evening. He was born in Altoona, PA, son of the late Blaine C. "Pete" and Lena Rose (Francis) Sidler. He married Jana M. Stanford on August 10, 1985. Surviving are his wife of 28 years; a sister, Doris J. O'Donnell (Richard) of Silver Springs, MD; an aunt, Pauline Fama and several nieces and nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother, Duane. Blaine, with his brother Duane, and currently with his nephew Casey Higgins, helped to build Lena's Cafe;, founded by their mother in 1939, into one of the most favored and enduring restaurants in the region. He proudly served in the U.S. Army and toured in Vietnam with the 199th Light Infantry Brigade for which he was awarded two Bronze Stars of Valor. Blaine's passion for hunting and his general love of the land were his favorite pastimes. He enjoyed cooking for family and friends as much as he did serving the community. He traveled extensively and was always eager to explore new cuisines. Friends will be received from 4-8 PM, Friday, September 6, 2013 at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc., 1421 8th Avenue, Altoona where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 AM Saturday, September 7, 2013 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery with Military Honors.
