Thomas J. Alesse

ALESSE - Thomas J. Of Amherst, entered into rest June 7, 2008, beloved husband of Betty (nee Murdock); proud father of Craig Alesse (MaryJo), Bruce Alesse, Beth Bogumil (David), Matthew Alesse (Janina) and Daniel Alesse; son of the late George and Zita Alesse; brother of Patrick Alesse and the late Sally Casey, the late Don Alesse; grandfather of Elizabeth, David, Michael, Matthew, Monica, Mark, Amanda and great-grandfather of Thomas. Thomas attended Amherst High School then served in the Army Air Corps during WWII in the China/Burma Theater. He earned his BA at Buffalo State College on the GI Bill and his MA in School Administration at The University of Buffalo. As a beloved teacher, he taught in the Sweet Home School District from 1952 until his retirement in 1983. An avid fisherman, gardener and craftsman, Thomas methodically built his own home in Amherst. A community builder also, he was a founding member of the North Bailey Volunteer Fire Department and the Sweet Home Federal Credit Union. Inventor of the shoebox camper (hi-lo style), he was able to explore most of the national parks with his happy family. Many enjoyed his active membership in the Southtowns Camera Club, Buffalo Movie - Video Makers and the Center for Inquiry. Cofounder of locally owned Amherst Media, he watched the company grow from a single book to be the worlds largest photo book publisher with over 200 titles distributed internationally. Thomas full, happy life will be celebrated at DENGLER & ROBERTS FUNERAL HOME, 2070 Eggert Road, Amherst, NY 14226, on Wednesday, June 11, from 5-8 PM.
