I found out that my beloved music professor had passed last year at this time. His lectures were adored by all his students. I was upset for a long time hearing about his passing. I admired everything about him.

His teachings and classes formed my music taste into what it is today. How I play, listen, and approach derives directly from his passion for the music and what it brings to life. On a personal level, we didn't know each other much, but I knew that when I was able to sign up for a class with Dr. Colquhoun, I was ready and determined to be a better musician, which he knew, would make me a better person. Rest Professor, and thank you....

I did not realize that Dr. Colquhoun passed away! I currently teach in Las Vegas and went looking for John Cage's 10 Rules for Students and Teachers, which I learned about in Dr. Colquhoun's class at Canisius. He was a great guy with a big heart and a deep passion for music. May his soul rest in perpetual peace.

Very occasionally I run searches for members of "The Octopus" from Bennett High School, graduating in 1972. Michael was a member of The Octopus. We played music together (my guitar was named Sarah, and Michael promised to name his daughter after it). I'm so sad to hear of Michael's death. He was a spirited, talented, lovely young man. I'll always remember our times together.

Please accept my most healing thoughts on Michael's passing. He spoke alot about you. His love for you was very evident and know that it is still with you! I worked with Michael in the Composers' Alliance of Buffalo and at Canisius College and we formed a very supportive, helpful friendship. He will be missed!

Dear Colquhoun family,
I have known Michael and performed with him since the UB South campus days about 35 years ago. I was his main violinist for all performances, projects,and many groups, especially Los Caribes. After the group's break up, I didn't see him much anymore. His passing was a shock and our whole family misses him. We had many performances, recordings, albums, and laughs together. He was truly a very special musician, composer and colleague. Our hearts and prayers go out to your family.
