Manny Fried was an inspirational teacher! I took his creative writing class at Buffalo State College and learned so much through his generous teaching style! I attended a few of his play readings and ran into him a few times around town. Because I wore a Panama hat, he would always yell out, "Panama," when he saw me. Lots of warm memories of this great man!

Dr. Fried was a fine educator and dedicated mentor. I took every class that I could with him at Buffalo State College. I ran into him a while back at the Road Less Traveled Theatre....he was so pleased, as was I. He will live in my heart forever. Rest in Peace Dear Manny.

To Manny's family,
It was with deep regret that I read of his passing. My first introduction to Manny was at Grover Cleveland HS as a new teacher. He was a friend of a friend in our union and he was introduced to me as a friend of teachers. Over my first few years as a union activist I learned from Manny how to be passionate, fair and unswerving in my actions to better ALL working members of society. I took that same passion and fairness along my 40 years of work in education, including passing it forward to future teachers in my capacity as a college instructor.
For the last several years my wife and I would see Manny at the Irish Classical Theater where we enjoyed a few moments of conversation and his first passion - the stage. He was a monumental human being, the topmost supporter of the working person and a writer of pure and complex statement. I will miss him, his white hair and his sparkling eyes. I will also miss his multitude of brillance given to our local and national community. Manny, start organizing the heavens! They need it.

I took a class from Manny 35 years ago, and remember wonderful moments provided by this inspired, dedicated man. I know there are many more ex students who feel the same way.

What a rich, rich life he lead, enjoying life to its fullest into his 90s, and thus touched so many.

Manny was a major presence in our lives growing up in Buffalo. He was strong, vibrant, smart, entertaining and caring. He fought the good fight in his life and was very brave. The Frieds were my second family, and Mindy will always be my "sister". My love to Peter, Sasha, Lorrie and her family, and to all that had the extraordinary experience of knowing the amazing Manny Fried.

It's rare that an intellectual artist like Manny feels compelled to work for the betterment of others but Manny was a rare person. His most important legacy is that we all try and emulate his good deeds whenever possible. He will be missed.
