CARTIE - Eugene J. Age 69, of Endwell, NY, passed away from complications due to a rare neurological illness, OPCA. "Gene", to friends and family, was born and raised in Buffalo, NY, where he met his wife, Marcia. He held the title of Licensed Master Plumber-City of Binghamton for most of his life and was a successful plumber on the side, primarily helping friends and senior citizens. He was a Board Member and one-year President of the local chapter of ASHRAE (American Society of Heating Refrigeration & Air conditioning Engineers). He was an associate member representative of the Broome County Association of Plumbing, Heating, Cooling Contractors. Gene was a General Manager employed by A. Roy Auchinachie and Sons Plumbing and Heating contractors at the start of his career and retired from his Sales Engineer position at Frank P. Langley Co. After his retirement, he enjoyed working part time for Stantec Engineering. Gene was predeceased by his father Francis, stepfather John McCarthy, his brother Michael and sister Judy, his in-laws Ruth and Emil (Inde) Inderbitzen, grandparents Edna and Joseph Goris, Jane and Anslom Cartie, Martha and Edwin Ziemer and Catherine and Emil Inderbitzen. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Marcia C. (Inderbitzen) Cartie. He is also survived by his mother, Elizabeth McCarthy and two sisters, Marilyn (and Jack) Walsh, and Fran Blersch (and Frank Lupejkis), all of Buffalo, NY. Also surviving Gene are six children and their spouses, Richard and Cynthia Cartie (Augusta, Georgia), Brian Cartie (Endicott, NY) and Debbie Bianco Cartie (Endwell, NY), Denise Uhlman (Pueblo West, Colorado), Daniel Cartie and fiancee; Catherine Cobb (Ft. Worth, Texas), David and Wendy Cartie (Vestal, NY), Paul Cartie (Endicott, NY) and girlfriend Annie Whitman, and 12 grandchildren, Matthew Erdman, Maya and Jared Cartie, Brittany, Jeremy and Zachary Cartie, Korey, Taylor and Brooke Uhlman, Joseph Cartie, and Madison and Melrose Cartie. Gene was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, camping, and especially hiking. A Mass of the Resurrection will be offered on Thursday, June 28th at 10 AM at the Church of The Holy Family, 3600 Phyllis St., Endwell, NY 13760. Entombment will be at Calvary Cemetery, 501 Fairview St., Johnson City, NY 13790. Family will receive family and friends at ALLEN MEMORIAL HOME, 511-513 East Main St., Endicott, NY 13760 on Wednesday, June 27th from 1-4 PM and from 7-9 PM. To celebrate Gene's life, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Gene Cartie Scholarship Fund for tuition assistance to Seton Catholic Central freshmen, sent to Visions Credit Union, 3301 Country Club Rd., Endwell NY 13760. Contributions can also be made to The Lourdes Hospice Program, 4102 Old Vestal Rd., Vestal, NY 13850.
