STORM - Roger S. Of Derby, NY, died in peace with family the morning of April 18, 2013, after a long and courageous battle against cancer; beloved husband of Diana (nee Adams and Scott); former husband and dear friend of Elizabeth Reif (nee Hayward); loving father of Jonathan and Kate Storm, Sarah and Mark Bohrer, Jessica and John Coyle, Don and Jennifer Scott and Bobbi Scott and boyfriend Eric Stearns; son of the late Bernard Storm (born Zawierucha) and Lorraine (nee Schroeder); dearest brother of Donald Storm and Etta (nee Cleveland); grandfather of Emma, Harper, Logan, Emily, Samantha, Jack, Charlie, Eva and Erin; uncle of Alan, Nathan and Katherine; he will be missed by his close friend Opie. Friends received at the LAKESIDE MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, INC. 4199 Lake Shore Rd. (Corner of Camp Rd. & Rte. 5) Hamburg, NY on Saturday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM, where a funeral service will be held on Sunday at 2 PM. Roger earned a doctorate of physical chemistry from University at Buffalo and enjoyed a 28 year career with the Carborundum Co. where among other positions he served as Director of the Wendell Center for Research. He later served as VP of Buffalo-based Advanced Refractory Technologies and ended his career with 12-year tenure as Senior Vice President of Materials & Electrochemical Research Corp. of Tucson, AZ where he authored his last of 11 U.S. patents in 2007. An avid runner, bicycler, chef, skier, wine lover and carpenter. His spirit lives on not only through his wife, children and grandchildren, but also through his lasting and remarkable achievements in home design and construction, alongside his contributions to the advanced ceramics and materials industry.
