KALENAK - Marlene (nee Kwitowski) Marlene Kalenak went home to be with the Lord on July 26, 2012, five years after being diagnosed with cancer. She leaves behind for a time her cherished husband, Mark Kalenak and three gifts from God - Cole, Matthew and Jake Kalenak. She is also survived by her loving parents, Paul and Patricia Kwitowski of Amherst, NY and siblings Mary (and Ron) Houston, Ed (and Elizabeth) Kwitowski and Matt Kwitowski, along with Audrey (and Tony) Lauri and Alex Kalenak; also surviving are precious nieces and nephews, loving aunts, uncles, and cousins and wonderful friends. Marlene grew up in the friendly city of Buffalo, New York - home of the Sabres and Bills - and had many treasured memories of her happy life at home and the adventures and joy she shared with friends from Amherst High School and the graduating class of 1983. She earned a BA and MBA from Canisius College, then went on to work professionally as an advocate for low-income housing in Pittsburgh, PA and Washington, DC, interrupted briefly by a two-year Peace Corps assignment in L'viv, Ukraine. After marriage in June of 2000, the Kalenaks made their home on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, where they welcomed three boys in quick succession and she undertook the happy challenges of being a stay-at-home mom and raising her three precious boys. By God's grace, she was called to faith in Jesus Christ and baptized in His name in 2001 and has spent the last 10+ years growing in knowledge and joy under the faithful teaching, preaching and fellowship of the Capitol Hill Baptist Church. She, along with her family and brothers and sisters in Christ, took great hope in Christ's promise, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies, and whoever lives and believes in me will never die." Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 31 from 6 to 8 PM at the Capitol Hill Baptist Church (CHBC), 525 A Street, N.E. in Washington, DC 20002 and a Funeral Service held on Wednesday, August 1 at 12:00 Noon at Capitol Hill Baptist Church. A Memorial Service is also planned for Buffalo, NY at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Nine Marks Ministry of CHBC at www.9marks.org.
