Foster - Howard W.Age 89, was peacefully called from this life to his Heavenly Home on June 18, 2014. A native of Elma, NY, he enlisted in the US Navy during WWII where he served as an Aviation Radio Technician in the Pacific Theater. After the war, he returned to the University of Buffalo where he earned his degree in Electrical Engineering. As a Control Systems Engineer with Bechtel Power Corporation and Mobil Oil, his professional engineering career assignments took him and his family to a number of States across the US and to several foreign countries. Following retirement, he made Smithfield, VA his home these last 20 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, William L. Foster and Emma Rothenberger. Remembered as a consummate family man, he is survived by his loving and devoted wife of nearly 66 years, Norma J. Foster; son K. Nelson Foster and his wife Perri Spruell of Roanoke, VA; daughter Karen Foster McFather and her husband Geoffrey S. McFather of Smithfield, VA; and grandson Foster Scott McFather and soon - to - be wife Rosemarie E. Stacey of Hampton, VA. A private family service will be conducted at the Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, VA.
