Dear Mary and all of the Keane family, What a sad, sad loss. I'll never forget as a little girl when he would come over to the house and tower so high, tell his stories and when you would all sing your songs around the piano that Kate played late into the night while we hid behind the curtains to get a glimps. Those are the memories of the cloth of South Buffalo that I am proud to be cut from that he, and you all, brought into our home. He is surely singing with his Mother now and the songs will remain in our hearts. forever.

Dear Keane family,
Please know that you are in my prayers over the loss of Dick. He was a wonderful and funny man. When my grandfather visited from Ireland once, Dick took him out for an evening and they had great laughs. He also was a great host when I was in college and we used to go to the capitol to meet with legislators about issues. He was a good role model, a good Irishman and simply put a good man.
My chaplain here at the school will do Wednesday's mass for him.

An Irish Gent
He's utterly impractical, never predictable, sometimes irascible, quite inexplicable, strange blend of shyness, pride and conceit, and stubborn refusal to bow in defeat; he's spoiling and ready to argue and fight, yet the smile of a child fills his soul with delight. His eyes are the quickest to well up with tears, yet his strength is the strongest to banish your fears. His hate is as fierce as his devotion is grand, and there's no middle ground on which he will stand. He's wild and he's gentle, he's good and he's bad. He's proud and he's humble, he's happy and sad. He's in love with the ocean, the earth and the skies, he's enamoured with beauty wherever it lies. He's victor and victim, a star and a clod, but mostly he's Irish- in love with his God.
We are so sad at the loss of Uncle Dick. Our prayers and love are with all of you.

Dear Keane Family, especially Pat, Maria, Jordan, Caroline, Samantha, and baby Payton,
We are sorry for the loss of your father and grandfather. We can only imagine what it is like to lose such a special person in your life. Your beautiful family is in our thoughts and prayers.
May the road rise up to meet you,
May the wind be ever at your back
May the sun shine warm upon your face
And the rain fall softly on your fields
And until you meet again, May God hold
him in the hollow of His hand

October 25, 2008
In a political arena where acerbity was the norm, Dick Keane stood out as a soft spoken gentleman. He made his point when needed and backed away from nothing. But, he did it in the best traditions of “Irish Diplomacy,” telling a man to be quick on his way to hades but convincing the errant creature to look forward to and enjoy the journey.
I worked for and against Dick Keane in the various Tong wars that are the sum and stretch of South Buffalo Politics. And whatever the degree of conflict, there was always a warm handshake and a hearty hello, from Assemblyman Keane, in acknowledgment of a fellow Hibernian laborer in the vineyards of the vote. It marked Dick as both decent and fair, a man others could look up to and even ask for help when needed.
His wife Mary & children, his brothers and sisters, & Keane family all will miss his gentle and quiet presence in the months and years to come. But always, ever there will be the memory of that impish smile and the St. Pat’s induced twinkle in his eyes. Sinn Fein was something Dick understood. And now we all do too, without him.
As the holidays come and pass, the Keane family will gather and trade half sad stories of Dick, Puff, Joey and scores of others who have come and left us for the far beyond. The magic of those memories will keep each of them alive as long as any of the great Keane family, of South Buffalo’s Clan Na Gael, walks this earth.
Go gentle into the ages, Dick. We knew ye well and considered it a privilege.

For those who know Dick Keane there is a great sense of loss today.
Dick Keane was a man of honor and compassion who was commited to helping people in need when he could which he did quietly with no fanfare.
Dick had a code of ethics he brought to his professional and personal life, the ethcis now practiced by his family.
He would tell you today his greatest gifts are Mary, his children and their families, his sisters and brothers.
Dick and Mary welcomed me into their home and a friendship was formed that I will always treasure.
One of my fondest memories is sitting at the kitchen table with Mary, Nancy listening to Dick tell stories [ which he was good at]about growing up, people he knew. There was laughter and music. Irish of course, music from the 40s [White Cliffs of Dover..my favorite]
When think of Dick Keane I will remember and smile.
My love and thoughts are with ya'll.
