KIRST - Raymond H. Age 95 of Eden, NY. He was born April 1, 1918 in Buffalo, NY, son of the late Edwin P. and Catherine (Haid) Kirst and died November 9, 2013. He is survived by his beloved wife of 72 years, Geraldine (Wittmeyer); children Paul (Kathryn) Kirst, Patricia (Thomas) Shepker and Kathleen (John) Coval; grandchildren, Peter (Amy) Shepker, Julie (Scott) Clements, Steven (Vicky) Mize and Jonathan (Melissa) Kirst; great-grandchildren, Megan, Joseph and Jessica Shepker, Ryan and Sean Mize, Madison Kirst and Nathan Clements; brothers and sisters, Howard (Marie) Kirst, Robert (Dolores) Kirst, Doris Schmidt, Carl (Mabel) Kirst, Eileen Cottet, Jane (Donald) Kruger and John (Jean) Kirst; sister-in-law, Lillian Schreiner along with several nieces and nephews. Ray was predeceased by his sister and brothers-in-law Marian and George Koelmel, William Cottet, Richard Schmidt and Harold Schreiner. Ray graduated from Hamburg High School in 1936 and attended Millard Fillmore College. In 1936, he joined his father's wholesale distribution business that became E.P. Kirst & Sons, Inc. in Hamburg, NY as a salesman for 70 years, leading the corporation as president for 28 years. He is a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in WWII. He was a long time communicant of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, served on parish Council, Building and Grounds Committee, Duffy Center Planning Board, Holy Name Society and received the Buffalo Diocese St. Joseph the Worker Award. Ray was a member and past officer of the Knights of Columbus Council 2220, NYS Wholesale Distributors Assoc., Buffalo Candy & Tobacco Table, Eden Recreation Board, Eden Board of Education, a life member of Eden Fire Dept., and a member of the American Legion Post 880. He was Cub Master and Assistant Scoutmaster in Eden Boy Scouts. Family and friends are invited to visit DONALD M. DEMMERLEY FUNERAL HOME, INC., 21 Pierce Ave., Hamburg on Wednesday, November 13th from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, November 14th at 10 AM in Immaculate Conception Church, Eden, NY, Rev. Walter Grabowski, Celebrant. Please assemble at the church. Committal prayers and Interment will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery with Military Honors accorded. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may remember Ray through donations to Immaculate Conception Church, Hospice Foundation of WNY or Eden Fire Dept.
