WINTHROP – James T. Donnelly, 88, of Winthrop, died Friday morning, Dec. 28, at Allen Hospital in Waterloo.

Jim was born on Oct. 30, 1924, in Independence, the son of Bernard and Josie (McGrath) Donnelly. He was a 1943 graduate of the Independence High School and was united into marriage to Maxine Brace in Independence. The couple made their home in Independence where Jim and his brother operated a Tire Shop. In 1966 the family moved to Winthrop where he owned and operated Jim's Tire Shop for fifty years and Jim's Golf Carts for ten years prior to his retirement.
Jim was past president of the Winthrop Commercial Club, the Winthrop Golf Club, was a volunteer fireman for over 30 years in Independence and Winthrop, and a member of the Winthrop City Council.
He is survived by a daughter Susan Thimmesch of Winthrop five grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, nine great-great grandchildren, and two brothers; John Donnelly, Vinton and Leo Donnelly, Independence.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Maxine in 1996, two sons in infancy, one grandson, a great grandson, a step-daughter, Joan Quint, and three brothers; William, Raymond, and Leonard Donnelly.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 31 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Winthrop, with Rev. Don Plamondon officiating. A private burial will be held at a later date. Visitation was 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, and 9 till 10 a.m. Monday at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Winthrop, where a rosary was recited at 3 p.m. Sunday.
