INDEPENDENCE– John A. Risk, 59, of Independence, Iowa, died Friday morning, May 10th at his home in Independence.

John was born on May 5, 1954, in Independence, Iowa the son of Donald L. and Katharine J. (Klotzbach) Risk. He moved with his family to Scotsdale, Ariz. where he graduated from the Scotsdale High School in 1972. He received a BS degree in Psychology from the Arizona State University. On Nov. 17, 1979 he was married to Diana Gutierrez in Villa Del Carbon, Mexico. The couple later divorced. In 1980 the family moved to Independence, and John became employed with the Buchanan County Abstract Office in Independence and later with the Marshall County Abstract Office in Marshalltown.
He is survived by three sons: Alexander (Lindsay) Risk, Ankeny; Louis Risk, Prague, Czech Republic; and Joseph Risk, Virginia Beach, Va., three grandchildren, his parents Katharine Risk, Independence, Donald Risk, Independence, a brother; William (Vicky) Risk, Tempe, Ariz.; a sister; Janet (Mark) Kohlmeyer, Oelwein; and four nieces and a nephew.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 13 at the First Presbyterian Church, Independence with Rev. John Hougen officiating. Inurnment will be held in Oakwood Cemetery, Independence. Friends may call after 1 p.m. Monday at the church.
