INDEPENDENCE – A. Clark Satterlee, 84 years old, of rural Independence, died on Thursday, Sept. 27, at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence. He was born on Nov. 8, 1927, in Buchanan County, Iowa, the son of Arthur Amos and Lois Miriam (Hayzlett) Satterlee. He served with the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. On May 7, 1949, he and the former Marie Rose Kisner were married in Sioux Falls, S.D. She preceded him in death in 2010.
Mr. Satterlee is survived by three daughters, Diana Hulin of Jesup, Connie (Harry) Scott and Julie (Brad) Bagby, both of Independence, and one son, Gary (Rhonda) Satterlee of Independence. He is also survived by two sisters, Sheila Lamphier of Independence and Sharon Kessler of Carmel, Calif.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, Neal Hulin, two brothers, Jack Satterlee and Jerry Satterlee, and one sister, Genevieve "Ginx" Cook.
Funeral Services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 2, at the First United Methodist Church in Independence with Rev. Scott Meador officiating. Burial will be in Wilson Cemetery in Independence.
White Funeral Home of Independence is in charge of arrangements. Visitation was from 4 until 8 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 1, at the funeral home where a Military Service began at 7 p.m. On line condolences may be left at www.White-MtHope.com.
