INDEPENDENCE – A. Marjorie "Marge" Henderson, 94 years old, of Independence, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 26, at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence. She was born on Nov. 22, 1918, in Mingo, the daughter of Ira Joab and Mabel Natalie (Turner) Campbell. She graduated from high school in Rowley, with the Class of 1936. On Jan. 27, 1940, she was united in marriage to Dr. Robert James Henderson in Vinton. He preceded her in death in 1984.
Marge led an active life and enjoyed her church activities at the First Presbyterian Church. She was a 50-year member of Chapter BD P.E.O. and volunteered for the American Red Cross Blood Mobile. She was an ardent supporter of the Independence Public Library, the VFW, the Buchanan County Historical Society, the new Independence High School, the Iowa Hawkeyes, and the Cubs
Marge is survived by two daughters, Linda (Douglas) Hearn and Marcia (Deb Andresen) Henderson, both of Independence, three grandchildren, Rachel (Kevin) Snow of Wausau, Wisc., and Stacy (Kelly) Henderson and Robert (Melissa) Hearn, both of Independence, a daughter-in-law, Andrea (Leroy) Hand of Oelwein, and 11 great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Larry Henderson, one granddaughter, Kathryn Eschen, four brothers, four sisters, and one half sister.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 30, at the First Presbyterian Church in Independence, with Rev. John Hougen officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence. Friends called for visitation from 3 until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 29, at the White Funeral Home in Independence where a P.E.O.
