ROWLEY - Alan D. Westphal, 53, of Rowley, died on Monday, June 20, at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence following a sudden illness.
He was born on May 8, 1958, in Independence, the son of Clair R. and Gladys Maxine (Kautz) Westphal. He graduated from high school in Independence in 1976. On June 2, 1979, he and the former Glenda Fay West were married in Brandon. Mr. Westphal was a resident treatment technician at the Mental Health Institute in Independence.
Mr. Westphal is survived by his wife of 31 years, Glenda, three sons, Jacob (Crystal) Westphal of Independence, William Westphal of Ames, and Brian Westphal of Rowley, one daughter, Alissa Westphal of Rowley, and one granddaughter. He is also survived by three brothers, Gene Westphal of Jesup, Ron Westphal of Kewanee, Ill., and Doug (Valerie) Westphal of Fairbank, and two sisters, Bette (Richard) Brown of Fairbank, and Judy (Don) Main of Independence.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 24, at the United Methodist Church in Rowley. Burial was in Rowley Cemetery. White Funeral Home of Independence was in charge of arrangements.
