Winthrop – Albert Lewis Schabacker, 87, of Winthrop, died Sunday at West Village Care Center, Independence, following a lengthy illness. He was born Nov. 17, 1922, in Rochelle, Ill., the son of Frederick Adolf Schabacker and Ida Bertha (Felgenhauer) Schabacker. The family moved often during his childhood settling at Manchester, where Albert graduated from high school with the class of 1943. On June 22, 1947, He and Dolores Ann Kuhlman were united in marriage in Greeley. Albert farmed for many years retiring in 1984.
Schabacker is survived by his wife, Dolores of Winthrop; two daughters, Julie (Leland "Eugene") Dudley of Aurora and Joan (Timothy Lehs) Johnson of Winthrop; one son, Scott (Susan) Schabacker of Jesup; six grandchildren; one great granddaughter; two brothers: William (Ruth) Schabacker of Waverly and Norman (Pearl) Schabacker of Winthrop; two sisters: Dorothy Courtney of Waterloo and Georgia Belle Broome of Rochelle, Ill. and two sisters-in-law: Marcella Schabacker of Austin, Minn. and Lyla Schabacker of Prairie du Sac, Wis. In addition to his parents, four brothers: Frederick, George, Adolf and Clarence Schabacker; two sisters, Marie Halsne and Esther Thompson, and one infant granddaughter, preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the White Funeral Home, Independence. Burial will be at the Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Hazelton. Visitation will be before services Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials will be directed to St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Aurora and to Hospice Compassus in Waterloo.
