DES MOINES – Anna Louise Markee Beatty was born on October 13, 1922 in Independence, to Enola Marinus Markee and William Markee. She died on March 17, from injuries sustained from a fall.
Anna graduated from Independence High School in 1940. She married Gerald George Beatty of Rowley (died 2007) in Madison, Wisconsin on November 1, 1943, the day before he deployed to the South Pacific in World War II. He served 27 months to the end of the war. Upon Gerald's return from the war, they lived in Waterloo for a brief time and then Des Moines for the remaining decades of their lives.
Anna's greatest love was her family. She was a devoted wife, mother and friend to many. She survived by her son Dr. Richard (Candida) Beatty, grandson Dr. Richard Beatty, Jr (Dr. Kelly), a niece Susan and numerous friends. Anna was never heard to say a harsh word about anyone and always defended her family and friends.
Anna took great pride in her Independence, Iowa, heritage which spanned generations. She had been a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and of the Iowa Pioneers whose ancestors lived in Iowa in 1856 or earlier.
She was a self-taught painter of landscaped and wildlife which she also loved. She took great pride in her flower gardens.
Her death has brought a great loss and sorrow to her family and friends. Her memory will be cherished forever by both.
