INDEPENDENCE – Archie R. Mohlis, 91 years old, of Independence, died on Wednesday, July 24, at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence. He was born on July 4, 1922, in Sumner, the son of John J. and Mathilda (Suhr) Mohlis. He attended school in the Westgate area. On Sept. 29, 1956, he and the former Gloria Leoncia Salaysay were married at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They farmed in Buchanan County until retiring and moving to Independence in 2004. Mr. Mohlis was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence and the Farm Bureau.
Mr. Mohlis is survived by his wife of 56 years, Gloria; one daughter, Patricia Sauer of Rochester, Minn.; and three sons, John Abbott and David (Tara) Mohlis, both of Independence, and Vernon (Dawn McSweyn) Mohlis of The Dalles, Ore. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and one sister, Margaret Cannon of DeSoto, Wis.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Fritz Mohlis; and one grandson in infancy.
Friends may call for visitation from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 28, at the funeral home.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 29, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence with Pastor Kurt Bockoven officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence.
