Independence - Avis M. Weber, 96, of Independence died on Sunday, July 4, 2010, at West Village Care Center in Independence following a long illness. She was born on July 31, 1913, in Monti, the daughter of Arthur M. and Gertrude (Strain) Sherrer. She graduated from high school in Independence with the Class of 1931 and attended the Independence Junior College. On February 3, 1932, she and Edward William Weber were married at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hazleton. He preceded her in death in 1986.
Weber is survived by one son, Tom (Janice) Weber of Independence; one grandson, Chris Weber of Muscatine; one brother, Charles (Dorothy) Sherrer of Marion; two sisters: Gladys Steinhoff of San Francisco, Calif., and Lorraine (Roy) Ottoboni of Modesto, Calif., and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Independence. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery in Independence.
