OELWEIN – B. A. "Pete" Goldenstein, 90, of Independence, Iowa died on Thursday morning, May 24, 2012 at his son's home in rural Aurora.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 2 at Zion Lutheran Church in Oelwein; Officiating will be Rev. Leo Combs-Lay and Rev. William Thalacker; Visitation is from 9:30 a.m. to service time on Saturday at the church. Interment will be Union Cemetery, Putnam Township, rural Aurora.
Memorials may be given in his name to E.L.C.A. World Hunger of Chicago, Illinois or to your local congregation.
Bernard Amos Goldenstein was born on Sept. 29, 1921 at Golden, Ill., the son of Ehme and Sarah (Albers) Goldenstein. He graduated from LaPrie High School at Golden, Ill. Pete married Emma Katherine Klein on May 30, 1943 at Golden, Ill. They were divorced in 1972. Pete farmed over 50 years in the Independence area. He was a former member of Immanuel Lutheran Church at Independence, Iowa where he was a Sunday school teacher for over 20 years and served in various positions on the church council. He later became a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Oelwein. He was also a member of various farm organizations.
Pete is survived by: two sons, Mark Goldenstein of Elburn, Ill. and Steve (Ruth) Goldenstein of Aurora; a daughter, Rebecca (Joe) Patrick of Mundelein, Ill.; six Grandchildren, Matt Goldenstein, Mike Goldenstein, Joshua Patrick, Rachael McOmber, Meghan Goldenstein and Chris Goldenstein; six Great Grandchildren; a sister, Norma Jean Taylor of Columbus, Ohio; Four nieces and six nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother (Eldon Goldenstein); and three sisters (Agnes Geissler, Esther Sanders and Ellen Jones).
