William H. Horn, 81 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Friday, June 11, 2010, at his home following a short illness. He was born in Independence, Iowa, on October 21, 1928, the son of William and Viola Pearl (Hanson) Horn. He graduated from high school in Independence with the Class of 1948. On October 21, 1948, he and the former Mary Louise Coulter were married at the First Baptist Church in Independence. She preceded him in death in 1995. Mr. Horn worked at the John Deere Co. in Waterloo for 32 years before retiring in 1987. He enjoyed fishing and collecting the local news over coffee in Independence. And he looked forward to his winter trips to Arizona. Horn is survived by 1 son, Russell (Melissa) Horn of Independence, Iowa, 1 daughter Roeann Thomas of Jesup, Iowa, 7 grandchildren, and 1 brother, Dennis M. Horn of Wadena. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and on son, Rod Horn. Funeral Services were held Monday at the Immanuel Lutheran Church. Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence. White Funeral Home of Independence, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements.
