INDEPENDENCE – Brett L. McGill, 51 years old, of Independence, died on Sunday, Oct. 6, at his home. He was born in Waterloo on Feb. 27, 1962, the son of Dwayne Anthony and Sherry Eileene (Clark) McGill. He graduated from high school in Jesup, Iowa, with the Class of 1980. On May 9, 1981, he and the former Judith Ann Oberle were married at St. John's Catholic Church in Independence. Mr. McGill was the distribution manager for over 30 years at Wonder Bread in Waterloo, Iowa. For over 20 years, he built and drove IMCA stock cars on the racing circuit.
Mr. McGill is survived by his wife of 32 years, Judy, one daughter, Renee McGill of Independence, Iowa, and Rick (Jenna) McGill of Kirksville, Mo., his father, Dwayne McGill and his mother, Sherry McGill, both of Jesup. He is also survived by three brothers, Chris (Wendy) McGill of Jesup, Randy (Tina) McGill of Hutchinson, Minn., and Jason McGill of Independence, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 10, at the White Funeral Home in Independence, with Sharon Bainbridge officiating. Friends may call for visitation from 4 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 9, at the funeral home. On line condolences may be left at
