WATERLOO - Burdett R. Neal, 70, Waterloo, formerly of Independence, died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2011, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home, Waterloo, of natural causes.
Neal was born May 6, 1940, in Delhi, the son of Wesley and Nellie Turner Neal. He married Janice Krueger on Dec. 25, 1961, at St. Peters Lutheran Church, Greene. He worked with John Deere, Waterloo, as a paint inspector at the Westfield site until his retirement in 1995. He also served in the U.S. Marine Corps, receiving an honorable discharge.
Survivors include his wife; two sons: Scott (Deedee), Minneapolis, and Wesley (Judy Lytton), Indianola; a daughter: Sheri (David) Fisher, Tokyo; a daughter-in-law; seven grandchildren; three sisters: Grace Frommelt, Dubuque, Greta Thomas, Independence, and Helen Warden, Delaware; two brothers: Harold (Lois), Guttenberg, and Walter (Rose), Bellevue; and a sister-in-law.
He was preceeded in death by his parents; a brother, Howard Neal; and two brothers-in-law.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Trinity American Lutheran Church, Waterloo, with military honors by the American Legion Post 139 and VFW Post 1623. Burial will be at Wilson Cemetary, Indepenence, at 2 p.m. Thursday.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Locke Funeral Home, Waterloo. Memorials can be directed to Trinity American Lutheran Church or the Iowa Veterans Home, Marshalltown.
