Carl V. VanTasell, 83, of Independence, died Oct. 22 at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence following a short illness. He was born in Buchanan County Oct. 22, 1927, the son of Leon Henry and Verna Imamyrth (Anson) VanTasell. He attended the Buchanan County country schools and the Rowley High School. On Jan. 1, 1949, he and the former Eleanor J. O'Brian were married at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They farmed near Rowley.
VanTasell is survived by his wife of 61 years, Eleanor; one daughter, Verna Pierce of Cedar Rapids; one son, Vinton VanTasell of Rowley; one grandson, Allen Pierce of Cedar Rapids, and two great-grandchildren: Roman Pierce and Ayla Pierce.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his maternal grandparents (who raised him): Gertrude and Sam Anson; two sisters: Gertrude O'Brian and Vera O'Brian, and one son-in-law, Michael A. Pierce. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Rowley. Burial was in Rowley Cemetery in Rowley. White Funeral Home of Independence is in charge of arrangements.
