INDEPENDENCE – Carolyn M. Versluis, 75 years old, died suddenly on Saturday, Dec. 15, at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence. She was born on Aug. 25, 1937, in Independence, the daughter of Lee Willis and Irene Charlotte (Rider) Spece. She graduated from high school in Independence with the Class of 1955. On March 25, 1960, she and Robert Henri Versluis were married in El Paso, Texas. They later divorced. Mrs. Versluis was a home maker, but also worked in service positions at several places in Independence. She was one of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Mrs. Versluis is survived by one daughter, Sheryl Versluis, of Independence, and one brother, Virgil Spece of Independence.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Shirley Johnson and Phyllis Claypool.
Memorial Services will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 21, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Oelwein. Her cremated remains will be placed in the Cremation Garden at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence.
