Charlene Wilson, 83, of Independence, died on Monday, September 6, 2010, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, following a short illness. She was born on June 12, 1927, in Shellsburg, the daughter of Carl and Anita Marie (Mullinex) Wilt. She graduated from high school in Shellsburg. She and Alfred Carl Gustafson were married in Shellsburg in 1947. They later divorced. On August 17, 1964, she and Wayne B. Wilson were married in Valentine, Neb.
Mrs. Wilson is survived by her husband of 46 years, Wayne; four sons: Gary (Barbara) Gustafson of Vinton, David Gustafson of Kuna, Idaho, Alan (Leane) Gustafson of Lake Field, Minn., and Kevin Wilson of Waterloo. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and one brother, Duane Wilt of Quinlan, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Claire Wilt, and one sister, Bernice Lieb.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, September 10, 2010, at the First United Methodist Church in Independence. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence.
