INDEPENDENCE – Clarence E. Bailey, 87 of Independence, died Thursday, Oct. 14 at his home. He was born Aug. 2, 1923, on the family farm in Black Hawk County, the son of Frank Ray Bailey and Effie Mae (Ennis) Bailey. He served in the U.S. Marines from 1944 – 1946. On April 26, 1952 he was united in marriage to Victoria Sadowski in Florence, Ariz.
Clarence farmed between Independence and Jesup after returning to Iowa.
Bailey is survived by one sister, Helen Blad of Jesup, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Victoria, who died in 2007, he is preceded in death by an infant daughter Lynne Victoria Bailey; his parents; three brothers: Roy, Ralph and Robert Bailey; and three sisters, Nellie Green, Iva Dinnebier and Eula Brown.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. – Tuesday, October 19, 2010, at the First Presbyterian Church, Jesup. Military Rites will be conducted by Pump-Scheer American Legion Post 342 of Jesup, with burial at Old Barclay Cemetery, rural Jesup. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Monday, October 18th at the White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA and for an hour before services Tuesday at the church.
