Colleen Ruth O'Connell (1941 - 2016)

STOCKTON, Calif. – Colleen Ruth O'Connell (75) passed away unexpectedly at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Stockton California, on Thursday, October 13. Colleen's three children were at her side when she went to be with her Lord. Colleen lived with her sister, Betty Passage in Stockton, California.
Colleen is survived by her children, Colin (Donna) Shillinglaw of Waco, Texas, Kevin Shillinglaw of Clarion, and Dawn Sturch of Waterloo. Brother, James (Karen) Connell of Independence and sisters, Betty Passage of Stockton, Calif. and Carol (Jose) Palacios of Hayward, Calif. She was married to her former husband, Mike Shillinglaw of Waterloo. She has eight grandchildren and one great granddaughter, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Wilma Connell; and sister Mary Walton.
Colleen was born on Sept. 12,1941 in Anamosa. She graduated from St. John's High School in Independence, in 1960. She graduated from Des Moines Area Community College with a degree in Administration. She worked as an administrator of nursing homes and assisted living housing in Iowa and California.
Colleen's retirement years were spent in California with her sisters. She made frequent trips to Iowa visiting family. She loved cats and enjoyed playing word games. The family would like to thank Jill and Al Beyer, daughter and son-in-law of Betty Passage, for their love and support. Colleen is also a friend of Bill W.
A memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Nov 19, at St John's Catholic Church in Independence with Deacon Ed Weber officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to memorial service. A meal will be provided following the memorial service. Inurnment will take place at St. John's Cemetery. Colleen will be buried alongside her parents. A second memorial service will be held in Stockton, Calif.
