OELWEIN - Daniel C. Lange, 60 of Oelwein, and formerly of Independence, died Wednesday, May 18, at Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo.
Dan was born on Jan. 21, 1951, in Independence, the son of Henry W. and Vivian V. (Hester) Lange.
He attended the Independence Schools and entered the U.S. Navy on Nov. 18, 1970 serving until his discharge on Jan. 31, 1991. Upon his discharge he returned to the Independence area and became employed with Iowa Ham, and Geater Machining in Independence.
In 2005 the couple moved to Oelwein, and Dan became employed as a mechanic with the Avalon Tire and Service Center in Oelwein.
He is survived by his wife Sandra A. Lange, Oelwein, a son Dan (Tava) Lange, San Antonio, Texas., five grandchildren, two sisters; Judith (Darrell) Phelps, Rodgers, Ark., Emily (David) Phelps, Anamosa, and a brothers; Neil (Marilyn) Lange, Omaha, Neb.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Derrik Lange in 1989, and a brother; George Lange.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 21, at the Reiff Funeral Home and Crematory, Independence. Burial will be at sea in the Pacific Ocean at a later date.
