INDEPENDENCE– Darlene J. Butters, 69, of Independence, died Sunday, Sept. 27, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo.
Darlene was born on Jan. 9, 1946 in Iowa City, the daughter of Edgar Butters and Evelyn Marie Fry. She was raised in Independence and graduated from the Vinton School for the Blind. She enjoyed helping others and spent her life volunteering at the Vinton School for the Blind.
She is survived by her daughter Autum (Martin) Close, Independence; four grandchildren: Matt, Logan, Sean and Ryan; two brothers: Ronald "Butch" Butters, Independence, and Robert Butters, Otterville; three sisters: Sherlie Butters, Evansdale, Rita Butters, Waterloo, and Kathy Muller, Waterloo; and many nieces and nephews.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters: Rosie Kirkbride, and Patricia Slater; a grandson Ethan Close; and a cousin, James Butters.
A Memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory in Independence, with Pastor Joshua Graber Officiating, where friends may call from 4 p.m. till services.
