HAZLETON - Delores J. Gerstenberger, 77, of Hazleton, died on Saturday, May 28, at Mercy Hospital of Franciscan Sisters in Oelwein.
Funeral service are at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 1, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein.
Visitation was Tuesday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein where there was a Catholic Daughters of the Americas Rosary and Parish Scripture Service.
Interment will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery at Hazleton. In lieu of flowers, memorials be given in her name to the .
Delores Jeanne Martin was born on Aug. 18, 1933 at Aurora, the daughter of Fred and Hilda (Werner) Martin. She graduated from Stanley High School at Stanley, in 1951.
Following graduation Delores was employed at the Oelwein State Bank as a teller and bookkeeper until she was united in marriage to Gus Gerstenberger on July 20, 1957 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lamont. She farmed with her husband on the family century farm southeast of Hazleton their entire married life.
Delores was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hazleton and currently at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein, Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court St. Rita 321 and the Farm Bureau. She enjoyed reading, visiting with friends and most of all singing. Delores was a lifelong vocalist in her community and church and an inspiration to many for her kind works. Her greatest enjoyment was being able to see her grandchildren growing up and being close to her family.
Delores is survived by three sons - Daniel Martin Gerstenberger of Hazleton, John Michael (Angy) Gerstenberger of Hazleton and William Paul Gerstenberger of Oelwein; six grandchildren - Shannon, Meghan, Julianne, Allison, Samantha and Danielle; a sister - Betty Mackey of Mason City; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband (Gus Gerstenberger on Dec. 26, 1989).
