Demaris Mathilda Thompson (1921 - 2011)


JESUP - Demaris Mathilda Thompson, 90, formerly of rural Jesup, died Saturday, July 23, at East Towne Care Center, Independence, following a short illness.
She was born June 7, 1921, in Waterloo, the daughter of Louis H. Bauman and Mata (Myer) Bauman. Following graduation from Waterloo East High School she worked at Rath Packing Co. On Jan. 1, 1948, she was united in marriage to Harold Arthur Thompson in Waterloo. She later worked at Micro Switch and then 20 years at the Mental Health Institute, both in Independence, before retirement. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Jesup.
Mrs. Thompson is survived by one daughter, Bonnie Strait of Homosassa, Fla.; one son, James Thompson of Harlan; three grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. In addition to her husband Harold who died Sept. 15, 1992, her parents, three sisters, Ella Bauman, Evelyn Bauman, Emma Webster; and three brothers, Leroy, Kermit and Louis Bauman, preceded her in death.
Funeral services were Friday, July 29, at the First Presbyterian Church, Jesup. Burial was at Cedar Crest Cemetery, Jesup.
White Funeral Home of Jesup was in charge of arrangements.
