JESUP - Father Donald Ehr, 87, of Chicago, formerly of Jesup, died Friday, Aug. 19, at Techny, Ill.
He was born Oct. 19, 1928, in Jesup, son of Irvin and Marie Ehr. He served as a Formator, as provincial superior and as a pastor in the African-American apostolate. He was deeply committed to community development in the Bronzeville neighborhood of south side, Chicago.
He earned a doctorate in systematic theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University, Rome. He was pastor at St. Elizabeth in Chicago from 1984 to 2000, and as priest in residence at St. Anselm in Chicago from 2000 to present. He was a charter member of the board of directors of Genesis Housing Corp.
Survivors include two sisters: Mary (Richard) Vogel of Independence, and Marlene Chaudoir of Tucson, Ariz.; two brothers: Ronald of Jesup and Irvin James of Independence; and a sister-in-law, Jeanene Ehr of Jesup.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Francis.
Memorial services will be 5:30 p.m. Oct. 1 at St. Athanasius Church in Jesup, with dinner afterwards.
