Half Moon Bay, Calif. - Donald J. Pilcher, 56 of Half Moon Bay, Calif., died suddenly on Wednesday, Sept. 8. He was born March 25, 1954 in Oelwein, son of Floyd and Mary Pilcher.
Don graduated from Independence Jefferson High School in 1972, and from the University of Iowa in 1978, with honors. He served in the Peace Corps in West Africa from 1974 - 1976. Don then attended Monterey Institute of International Studies, where he met the love of his life, Martha, whom he married on July 30, 1983. He earned a double Masters Degree in International Management Business Administrations and English/French Translation and Interpretation. Don settled in Half Moon Bay, with his wife and their "furry four-legged" kids and worked for several companies in the high tech industry. He will be greatly missed by all his family and many, many friends from all over the world. He is survived by: his wife, Martha; three brothers, Charles (Karen) of Gales Ferry, Conn., James, of Chandler, Ariz. and Steven (Vicki), Independence, three sisters: Barb (Jim) Anderson of Waterloo, Joyce Brown, of Wilmington, Del., and Rita (Dale) Walters, of Taftville, Conn. and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. He was preceded in death by: his parents, Floyd and Mary Pilcher, infant brother John and sister-in-law Ruth Pilcher Friends are invited to join the family at a Celebration of Life reception on Saturday, October 2nd from 1-5 p.m., at the Steven Pilcher home at 601 5th Ave. N.W., Independence. Memorials: may be directed to the family.
