Obituary

CEDAR RAPIDS – Donovan "Duke" Harland, 81, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 29, 2016, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids.
Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, May 5, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids with services to follow at 1 p.m.
Survivors include his children, Donna (Clark) Fratzke of Independence, Iowa, Steven (Catherine) Harland of Oakley, California, and Rochell (Darren) Ward of Waterloo, Iowa; step-children, Richard (Tresha) Boone of Henderson, Colorado, Tracey (Frank) Michalec of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Jackie Ayers of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Jeff Ayers of Des Moines, and their families; and siblings, Thomas (Judy) Harland, Joanne McInteer, and Gloria (Bob) Hummel; and, his special dog, Gidget.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dixie Harland; parents; brother, Bob Harland; an infant sister, Linda; and a brother-in-law, Tim McInteer.
Duke was born on June 18, 1934, in Washington, Iowa, son of Elmer and Mable (Baxter) Harland. He served in the United States Navy from 1955-1959. On October 25, 1992, he married the love of his life, Dixie Ann Jedlicka. Duke had a love for all things in the automotive industry owning his own body shop for many years and working in sales at Iowa Glass. The church was very important to Duke, where he spent many hours volunteering his time and considerable skills.
