QUASQUETON - Dorothy "Dottie" Evelyn Hand Griffin Crittenden was born Aug. 14, 1921 in Buchanan County, the daughter of Miles and Leone Collins Hand.
She was a 1939 graduate of Quasqueton High School.
In 1941 she married Howard E. Griffin. They resided on the "Griffin Farm" from 1941 to 1964. She and Pastor Howard served in the Hanover United Presbyterian Church in Illinois from 1964-1969 and then Timnath Presbyterian Church in Colorado from 1971-1975.
Dorothy worked at Johnson Litho Printing in Colorado from 1969-1987. She published her book "Pastor Howard" after her husband, Howard E. Griffin, passed away in 1975. She used her unique talents (sewing, writing, music, caring for others) and her love for God to make the world around her a better place. She married Emerson Leo Crittenden in 1987. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Howard E. Griffin, her husband Emerson Crittenden, her brothers Vernon D. Hand and his wife Eunice, Harold A. Hand and Herbert G. Hand, and her daughter-in-law Darlene Zeeman Griffin.
Dorothy died on Sunday, Aug. 28, at Fort Collins, Colo., at the age of 90.
Those left to cherish the memory of Dorothy include her son Daniel (Lorraine) Earnest Griffin, son Thomas (Claudia) Frank Griffin, daughter Rebecca (Donald) Reifsteck, 10 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, Dorothy's sister-in-law's Darlene (Charles) Hand Wilkins and Eleanor Hand, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, many friends.
Dorothy carried God's peace glowingly in her heart and was a true inspiration for many.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 4, in the Union Church at Quasqueton. Interment will be in the Quasqueton Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 p.m. until services at the church on Sunday.
The Fawcett Funeral Home of Winthrop assisted the family with local arrangements.
